Jane Austen is well-known as the beloved author of Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, and her unfinished novel Sanditon. Her novels sparkle with wit, romance, and insight into human nature, making her one of England's most cherished literary voices.

What is lesser known is that Jane embraced the Christian faith, was a deeply religious person and devoted to God. At the heart of this book are the manuscripts of Jane Austen's prayers that she wrote for family devotions at home. They are personal, beautifully written, and give us a glimpse into her heart.

Emma Darlington combines Jane Austen's prayers with a beautifully illustrated biography of her life. She explores the importance of Jane's faith, the effect it had on her life and her novel writing, and how her upbringing surrounded by clergymen inspired the wonderful characters she wrote about in her novels.

Darlington, Emma: - Emma Darlington wanted to be an explorer and live her life at sea, until she discovered that dusty old books, churches, and museums are generally found on land. She is passionate about Jane Austen, the Regency period, carriages, and corsets, and has written five non-fiction books on the subject including Jane Austen's Prayers, the first time Jane's handwritten prayers have appeared in print. Emma previously volunteered at Chawton House where her love of Jane Austen was reignited, and she was granted access to family papers, manuscripts and treasures. Emma has a marketing degree which is useful for supporting a number of charities in her spare time. On dry land, she spends a lot of time drinking tea in Jane Austen's village of Chawton, England.Austen, Jane: - Jane Austen was born on 16 December 1775 at Steventon near Basingstoke, the seventh child of the rector of the parish. She lived with her family at Steventon for 25 years until her father retired and they moved to Bath in 1801. After his death in 1805, Jane lived in Southampton until 1809 when she settled in Chawton, near Alton, Hampshire. Jane became ill in 1816, and in January 1817 started writing Sanditon. In May 1817, her family took her to Winchester to be near her doctor who could not save her. She died on 18 July 1817 and is buried in Winchester Cathedral. She published four novels in her lifetime, Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1816). Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, were published after her death in 1818, along with a biographical notice by her brother, Henry, the first time she was named as the author of her works.
