Cassandra Baker is a wealthy, semi-retired widow whose children are nearly grown. On the surface, all is well, but she misses her late husband, Edward. He was her soulmate, the only man she truly loved, and because of this, she has resigned never to marry again.

So, when she accidentally asks The Baker Brewing Company's new brewmaster, Colin McAllister, on a date, she's not sure how it happened. Physically, he's the opposite of Edward. In addition, Cassandra is surprised to discover that her best friend, Brian, wants her romantically when she gets involved with Colin, and he's angry when she won't acquiesce to him.
