Master Trophy Mule Deer Hunting with Expert Field-Tested Strategies

With over 30 years of boots-on-the-ground experience scanning rocky ridgelines across the West, Robby Denning has accumulated more in-the-field trophy mule deer hunting knowledge than most hunters will gain in a lifetime. This comprehensive hunting guide distills decades of trial and error, careful observation, and persistent dedication into actionable tactics for pursuing the buck of your dreams.

What You'll Learn

This book delivers an arsenal of proven tips and tactics refined through real-world application across thousands of square miles of Western mule deer country. Whether you're planning your first Western hunting adventure or you're already committed to trophy mule deer pursuit, you'll gain practical knowledge applicable to public land hunts on easily obtained tags. Denning's approach covers the complete hunting process from initial research through scouting, hunting execution, and game processing. His methods have resulted in four bucks over 200 inches in 15 seasons and dozens of bucks between 170" and 190", primarily on accessible public lands.

Weapon-Agnostic Hunting Tactics

The strategies presented work regardless of your weapon choice—bow, rifle, or muzzleloader. The focus remains on creating opportunities to take great mule deer through superior scouting, terrain analysis, and understanding of deer behavior across Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Nevada.

DIY Public Land Focus

This guide emphasizes do-it-yourself hunting on a realistic budget, with approximately 60 days per year dedicated to scouting and hunting. The techniques translate directly to public land scenarios where most hunters actually pursue mule deer, making this book immediately applicable to your hunting situation.

Robby Denning grew up in a mule deer hunting family just outside the small town of Iona, Idaho. He started hunting mule deer in the late 1970s, missing only one season in 35 years. At the age of 25, he gave up the pursuit of all other big game animals to focus on taking the best mule deer bucks possible. He began hunting the West on a do-it-yourself budget, scouting and hunting mule deer for about 60 days each year. Robby loves the hunt as much as the kill - and the entire process from research to scouting to hunting to processing his own venison. He's killed four bucks over 200 inches in the last 15 seasons, mostly on easily obtained tags, and dozens of other bucks between 170" and 190". He owns and operates a public-land scouting service and a private-land outfitting business, and is co-owner of the online hunting site, Rokslide.com. Robby has scouted and hunted thousands of square miles of mule deer country across Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Nevada. To him, the weapon of choice is just a means to an end; he will hunt with bow, rifle, or muzzleloader - whatever it takes to create an opportunity to take a great mule deer. He also writes for several national magazines and publishes weekly on his blog at Rokslide.com, which garnered 2 million hits in its first 12 months. Robby believes all of creation is from God for man to manage and respect, and through which to know its Creator.
