He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh's jazz studies program under the tutelage of Jazz Messenger alumni Nathan Davis and Leon Dorsey. Jim has performed in Chicago and Pittsburgh with outstanding jazz icons such as Mark Whitfield, Claudio Roditi, Donald Harrison, Antonio Hart, Jimmy Owens, Cecil Bridgewater and John Moulder.
