Parbs, Matt: - Born and raised in Springfield, Illinois, Matthew Parbs's first interaction with history was Honest Abe. Graduating from University of Illinois-Springfield with a history degree and teaching degree, Matt envisioned being a high school teacher. During the summer after graduation, a professor convinced him to go to a career fair, where Matt met representatives of the Red Cross. Convinced to volunteer but feeling deficient in the science behind storms, Matt walked into the National Museum of Land Surveying to see science at work on NOAA's Science on a Sphere. That turned into his first job in the museum world. At the Red Cross, Matt met his future wife. In March 2013, Matt started at the Sawmill Museum in Clinton, Iowa. Matt's been secretary of Kiwanis for six years.
