Constancio Hernaez is a central figure in contemporary music in his native city of Madrid, his work premiered by prestigious musicians across several continents. Vocal music makes up a significant part of his wide-ranging output, and this program contains his complete works for voice and piano in an extended series that pays homage to great Spanish poets. Hernaez's style closely echoes and communicates the chosen texts in multilayered tonal/modal settings. The result is an attractive journey through a variety of musical and poetic landscapes that call to mind a parade of figures from Spain's musical heritage, appearing in an eloquent and richly colored soundworld.
