His granddaughter, Melissa Smith FitzGerald, discovered the manuscript that Smith was finishing and trying to sell to Hollywood when he died suddenly in 1936.

He went on to a writing career and publishing achievements in New York. Smith, born in Ontario, Canada in 1868, died in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1936.Lambrecht, William: - William Lambrecht is a writer and editor living in Maryland. He was a political and investigative reporter in Illinois and Washington D.C. for several decades, co-founder of New Bay Times/Bay Weekly newspaper, a visiting professional at the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism and presently a parter in New Bay Books, a publishing house.
