Audrey Wells' coming-of-age story treats youthful longing as a serious subject. Sarah Polley's Harper drifts from college plans into the orbit of Stephen Rea's seductive mentor, only to discover that attention is not the same as care. What might have been melodrama becomes something gentler and wiser, thanks to a cast (Gina Gershon, Jean Smart) that honors the character's fragility without condescension.
