Throat slit. Heart broken. They'll meet the wraith within her.

The first time Carwynn almost died, she was thirteen.

A skeletal-faced demon slit her throat.

A pudgy Cherub saved her.

And nothing has been normal since.

Carwynn has spent years running from what she is, and the darkness clawing awake inside her. When secrets finally catch up to her, she flees to Luckland, a land born of ancient holiday magic and ruled by dangerously charming criminals. Determined to finally find a place where she belongs.

But Carwynn isn't human.

She isn't safe.

And the more she buries her power, the stronger it grows.

The Skell King, a monster who believes Carwynn is his prophesied heir, will tear the realm apart to claim her and bend her power to his will. As loyalties fracture and temptation grows, Carwynn is drawn into a web of forbidden magic, dangerous attraction, and betrayals that could destroy her.

Magic always demands a price.

To survive, Carwynn must decide who she can trust-and what she's willing to become.

A weapon...

Or something far more dangerous.

Because the Skell King is coming.

And he always reclaims what belongs to him.

Orfei, C. a.: - Before becoming an author, C.A. Orfei was a little girl who would reject every librarian's offer of sparkly princess books in favor of creepy Halloween tales. Weird, I know. As an adult, it is safe to say she hasn't changed much. She chased magic and lore by studying Social and Cultural Anthropology in both undergrad and grad school, fascinated by everything from exorcisms and baby-jumping rituals to yams as currency. Between studies and life, she traveled as often as she could, determined to discover what ghosts lingered in the Great Pyramid of Giza and to press her lips to the Blarney Stone for eloquence. Grove of Trees had been tickling the back of her mind for years. After settling down, her three mischievous toddlers sparked the idea of a world where Cherubs existed (along with plenty of other holiday-born creatures). Writing has given her the honor of exploring emotions, uncovering mysterious worlds, and crafting unforgettable characters-those who, much like humans, dare to be a flickering light in the darkest of places.
