This is not a memoir about what happened or how things were. This is not a memoir that even attempts to be true, but when the coma drugs cloud your memory, you must make the story your own. Will Carter's memoir, Getting Better, is Will's story of recovery after being in a car accident, suffering a brain injury and stroke, and being placed in a coma, all during his senior year of high school.

On October of 2007 when Will Carter was a senior in high school, Will was in a car accident and suffered a brain injury. After an almost three-week coma, Will awoke and went to the Shepherd Center for therapy. In May of 2008, he was able to graduate Roswell High School, and then, four years later, he graduated Oglethorpe University with a Bachelor of Arts in Playwriting. He went on to receive his Master of Fine Arts in Playwriting from Boston University and his Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Louisville.
