A delightful early-reader graphic novel that captures adventures in imagination and creativity at comics camp
"Fox River Comics Camp is a great book for kids who want to learn to make comics! And we know, because we WERE those kids!" --Raina Telgemeier and Scott McCloud, New York Times bestselling creators of The Cartoonists Club
Fox River Comics Camp is both a fun story and an interactive guide, following five young artists who are excited to learn all about comics and how to make them.
Each camper encounters different challenges and finds creative solutions by working together--from Fawn, who's a skilled artist but struggles to finish their drawings, to Ducky, who falters when their art doesn't look exactly like the comics they love to read.
Join the campers as they bring their ideas to life on the page with the help of their instructor, Puma, who is always ready with a helpful tip or explanation.
With plenty of games and activities for readers along the way, Fox River Comics Camp is sure to delight both kids and adults while inviting them to imagine and create their own comics.
Cathy G. Johnson is an award-winning cartoonist and educator living on occupied Wampanoag and Narragansett land in Providence, Rhode Island. They are the author of the middle-grade graphic novel The Breakaways. With their teaching project Comic Art Ed!, they lead comics classes for all ages at libraries, schools, and universities across New England. They are also a Thesis Professor in the MFA Visual Narrative department at Boston University College of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts. When they aren't drawing or teaching comics, Johnson makes band posters, watches scary movies, and hangs out with their pet box turtle that they've had since they were seven years old.
