I am a Black woman poet; the declaration/clarification is necessary.

But where and who I am now is not where I started 10 years ago. Locations, loves, lessons-everything changed.


In the last decade, the song of how this Black woman held it down and held on became a battle-cry instead of a lullaby. Those years, these poems chased/birthed/illuminated changes I wasn't always ready for. But I knew this was true journey, so I breathed deep, bound my wounds, and kept moving. (And in the words of my poem FLOW, "looked damn good while I was doing it". Just sayin').


FOLLOW ME ON THIS is a Black woman poet at cross-roads. Singing. LOUD.


Wit/ loss/ magic/ truth/ homage. Necessary information. Those 10 years re-built me, branded me, (almost) broke me.

I'm celebrating/documenting that decade.

It's fine to tell your stories, but for me, unless I can vibe, interact with a crowd, my job is only half-done."A former Poet Laureate for Imagination Celebration (Colorado Springs) a nominee for Poet Laureate for the State of Colorado. Founder/Lead Poet DragonsWing (Colorado Springs) and CoFounder/Lead Poet for Page to Stage: Women's Words (San Diego) she is also a Pikes Peak Community Foundation Individual Merit Award recipient, a Colorado Women's Playwriting Festival winner for her play FANNIE'S GIRLS: A 4-1-1 IN -5PART ATTITUDE, and a TEDx speaker. "It's never, ever about my single voice. So, the shows and women's workshops are extremely important to me.
