Euthydemus is a philosophical dialogue written by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato. The dialogue takes place between Socrates and two brothers, Euthydemus and Dionysodorus, who are sophists, or professional teachers of rhetoric and argumentation. The dialogue explores the nature of knowledge, wisdom, and virtue, and the methods by which they can be acquired. Throughout the dialogue, Socrates challenges the sophists' claims to knowledge and wisdom, exposing their fallacious arguments and demonstrating the limitations of their methods. He argues that true knowledge and wisdom cannot be acquired through clever tricks or rhetorical devices, but only through a rigorous process of inquiry and self-examination. The dialogue also touches on broader themes such as the relationship between language and reality, the nature of truth and falsehood, and the role of education in society. It is a classic work of philosophy that continues to be studied and debated by scholars and students of philosophy today. We contrived at last, somehow or other, to agree in a general conclusion, that he who had wisdom had no need of fortune. I then recalled to his mind the previous state of the question. You remember, I said, our making the admission that we should be happy and fortunate if many good things were present with us?This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
