Experience the rewarding life of a wildlife veterinarian, with true details about five different injured animals.
An opossum was attacked by a dog. A young owl swallowed a bit of lead. A turtle was hit by a car. These situations--and others just like it--are animal emergencies! Fortunately, there's someone who can help: a wildlife veterinarian. Meet Dr. Karra from the Wildlife Center of Virginia (WCV) and follow her through an action-packed day.
Written by acclaimed author Christy Gove, Dr. Karra to the Rescue is a children's book that reads like a medical drama--except all the patients are wild animals. Join Dr. Karra and her team as they treat five different critters. Every account is based on a true story of an actual patient at the animal hospital. In fact, most of the photographs in this book came from the WCV.
If your child loves animals, dreams of becoming a veterinarian, or enjoys real-life stories, this picture book is both entertaining and educational. It introduces facts about five different animals and spotlights the career of a wildlife veterinarian. Dr. Karra to the Rescue promotes empathy and instills an appreciation of wildlife and nature.
Book Features

Christy Gove is the author of six books, including five books for children. Her first book, Esther the Eaglet, was inspired by an eagle rescue that took place at her parents' cabin. From that experience, she learned about the unique and important work done by wildlife rehabilitation hospitals. The experience inspired her to research and write about more animal rescue stories. Christy lives just outside Minnesota's Twin Cities.
