Hindle, Thom: - THOM HINDLE first snapped the shutter on his Imperial twin lens camera back in the 1950s. Through the years, Thom's passion has been local history. He first began collecting Dover memorabilia and the negatives of Dover area photographers after purchasing the property of Major Joseph Abbott. There, he opened a photo studio and began photographing the changes being made locally, tracking down the families of earlier local photographers, and attempting to locate their negatives and cameras. Thom's passion for collecting started when a box of old glass negatives was given to him in the mid-1960s. Those negatives turned out to be the work of Dover photographer Henry Horton. Today, Thom's collection owns the work of over a dozen known New England photographers and numerous unknown collections acquired along the way, over 100,000 negatives. Many of these preserved images hang on the walls of local hospitals, medical facilities, banks, restaurants, corporate offices, and local businesses.
