Dhammpad - Padya Anuvaad - Paperback

The Dhammapada is a jewel of Buddhist literature, often regarded in the Buddhist tradition as comparable in stature to the Bhagavad Gita in the Vedic tradition-a concise yet profoundly meaningful compilation of teachings born from the compassion and wisdom of the Buddha. Owing to its timeless and non-sectarian message, it has been translated into numerous languages across the world.

This Hindi translation has three distinctive features. First, the original Pali verses have been rendered, as far as possible, into Hindi poetry, enabling readers to experience not only their meaning but also their rhythm and lyrical beauty. Second, fidelity to the original meaning and spirit has been given the highest priority; wherever necessary, meter and rhyme have been sacrificed to preserve accuracy and depth of expression. Third, brief notes have been provided at the end of each group of verses, encouraging practitioners and readers to reflect upon the practical implications of these teachings and apply them in their daily lives.

A selection of the background stories associated with the verses, traditionally narrated in various contexts, has also been included in the appendix. Thus, this volume is not only an authentic translation of the Dhammapada but also an invitation to embrace and practice the Buddha's liberating teachings in everyday life.
