Empires rise on myths of destiny-but they fall beneath the weight of truth.
In this groundbreaking and unflinching work, Dr. Deshay David Ford traces the parallel histories of America and Israel, two nations founded on conquest, racial hierarchy, and settler-colonial domination. From the arrival of enslaved Africans in Virginia in 1619 to the ongoing displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, Ford argues that both states embody the same contradictions: preaching liberty while practicing oppression.
With meticulous research and lived testimony, Ford exposes the roots of systemic racism, genocide, and imperial violence. He connects the U.S. Constitution's protection of slavery to modern mass incarceration, and the founding of Israel in 1948 to ongoing campaigns of dispossession and apartheid. Drawing on history, law, and international politics, he reveals how these nations, long upheld as models of democracy, mask the legacies of exploitation and exclusion.
This book is not just history. It is a reckoning. As the Global South rises and new powers reshape the world order, Ford contends that America and Israel are empires in decline, undone by the very injustices on which they were built.
A bold, uncompromising challenge to the myths of Western democracy.
