Many texts on criminal investigation present the same investigative process for every type of crime. However, each crime type requires a unique approach with distinct steps. An investigation involving a death is no different. All incidents of death should be processed as a homicide until they can be proven otherwise. In order to do so correctly, all investigative procedures specifically related to death investigation should be applied. Death Investigations - The 2nd Edition is a follow-up to the successful first edition published in 2013. This book brings to light many of the nuances that frequently confront death investigators and provides them with sound advice and guidelines of how to resolve these incidents. The authors cannot tell you how to solve a homicide, but with their combined decades of experience, can tell you how some homicides have been solved.

Dr. Adcock has nearly 40 years of experience investigating and evaluating death cases all over the world. After more than 20 years (CWO4-Retired-USA) as an investigator and supervisor with the US Army CID, Dr. Adcock became the Chief Deputy Coroner of Investigations in Columbia, SC. During that same time frame he obtained his doctorate from the University of South Carolina. His next move was to the University of New Haven where for 11 years, Dr. Adcock taught investigative courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels for students in criminal justice and forensic science programs. Since 1986 he has been an active member and now retired-fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences where he was the Vice-President 2008-2009 and served on their ethics committee for 8 years ending in February 2015. While Dr. Adcock is presently semi-retired living in Memphis, TN, he continues to write, conducts death investigation consultations and lectures in both the United States and for the Dutch Police Academy, The Netherlands. Mr. Chancellor started his law enforcement career in 1974 with the UIS Army Military Police. He eventually transitioned to the US Army CID in 1981 as a Special Agent working felony investigations. Upon retirement in 2001, he accepted a position with the Mississippi State Crime Laboratory as a Senior Crime Scene Analyst responsible for conducting homicide crime scene examinations throughout the state. In 2004, he transferred to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) where he developed and supervised the MBI Cold Case Unit responsible for assisting police agencies across MS in resolving old homicides cases. Then in 2008, he accepted employment back with the US Army CID where he now works as a civilian Supervisory Special Agent and Assistant Operations Officer. He has a master's degree in Criminal Justice from Oklahoma City University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
