Nora Jones is a lawyer who runs a free legal aid clinic out of a church located near the slums of inner city Chicago in 1967. She is a Christian who believes it is her Christian duty to use her legal talents to help the poor and needy.
She has been a widow for the past two years since her policeman husband, Stan, was killed by an unknown assailant. No suspect had ever been found but Nora wasn't accepting the investigative bankruptcy so readily.
In a chance encounter with a new church history teacher at Moody Bible Institute, Nora meets Peter Whalen, who thinks she is a Moody co-ed. Peter wants desperately to date her, but knows students are off limits to romantic pursuit.
He is finally relieved to learn that Nora is not a co-ed and asks her out, but but she is distracted by other considerations. Her mind is still trying to find her husband's killer, while also discovering that a black market baby ring has gotten two of her street people clients murdered.
She doesn't want to dismiss Peter completely, but she desperately wants justice, not only for her late husband, but also for her two dead clients.
The heat is turned up when Stan's murderer sets his sights on Nora. If that wasn't enough, she also finds the ones responsible for killing her clients are now out to take her life.
Ellen has been writing since she was 8 years old. She is a career teacher and a teacher at heart.
Ellen's hobbies are water color painting and loving on her cats.
