Climbing Fitz Roy, 1968: Reflections on the Lost Photos of the Third Ascent

This hardcover book presents rare, once-thought-lost photographs documenting the 1968 first ascent of the California Route on Cerro Fitz Roy—the third ascent of the mountain. The photographic collection captures a pivotal moment in mountaineering history, accompanied by retrospective essays from the climbers themselves.

Historical Documentation of a Legendary Ascent

Climbing Fitz Roy, 1968 provides comprehensive photo documentation of this significant climb while placing it within the social and climbing context of the late 1960s. The book reflects on how this momentous expedition influenced the lives of those involved and impacted the broader climbing community. These photographs, recovered after decades, offer an authentic window into high-altitude mountaineering during a transformative era.
