Castelnuovo-Tedesco: Platero and I

The well known Spanish tale of a man and his donkey in the Andalusian countryside "Platero and I", written and published by Juan Ramón Jiménez in 1913 is brought to vivid life with this recording of Castenuovo-Tedesco's arrangments that feature Simon Wynberg on guitar and narration by the actor, Colin Fox. The English versions that Castelnuovo-Tedesco used for his settings of Platero y Yo were drawn from the complete translation by the American academic Eloïse Roach first published in 1957. In assembling this Platero cycle, Fox and Wynberg have chosen 18 of the most compelling settings, organizing them in a way that follows a seasonal narrative while also providing effective musical and emotional contrasts.
