Twenty-four pages of coloring books could take you anywhere in the world — but this one takes you somewhere genuinely different. The Canada Adult Coloring Book captures a country that stretches from cobblestoned French-colonial streets to polar ice flats, from towering Pacific mountains to the fog-wrapped rocks of the Atlantic coast, and somehow makes all of it feel like one coherent, extraordinary place.

It opens on a horse-drawn carriage rolling through a quiet Quebec City street, the old stone buildings rising three stories on either side, gas lamps flickering from the walls. Turn the page and a group of Inuit inuksuit stand on bare Arctic tundra — six stone figures of different sizes, arms outstretched, each one a waypoint left for travelers crossing the tundra long before GPS. A beaver follows, hunched over its dam at the water's edge, every strand of its thick fur drawn with the kind of detail that rewards slow, deliberate coloring. Then a snow-covered forest path winds into the trees, spruce branches loaded with white, the trail ahead disappearing into the dark.

A Canada Goose launches off a lake mid-flight, wings fully spread, with a treeline and distant hills behind it. A lobster fishing boat works the choppy waters off the Maritime coast, wire traps swinging from its crane. A plate of butter tarts, golden and perfectly crimped. A polar bear crosses a broken ice sheet, mountains ghosted in the Arctic distance behind it. A log cabin sits tucked in a snowy clearing, smoke rising from the chimney in long curling ribbons. Then a full Thanksgiving spread: a roast turkey surrounded by cranberries and herbs, a bowl of stuffing, a pumpkin pie with cream, and the maple leaf flag standing at the back of the table like a proud host.

Kayakers paddle past sheer cliff faces dropping straight into the sea. The Canadian Rockies fill an entire page with jagged twin peaks and wave after wave of spruce forest rolling toward the foreground. Peggy's Cove lighthouse stands on a granite headland, the rocks cracked and ancient beneath it. A page of Métis-style floral beadwork — three large flowers connected by beaded vines and leaves — gives the hands a welcome break from architecture and wilderness. A curling team bears down on the house, brooms scraping, faces locked in concentration. The grand château rooflines of Château Frontenac crowd the sky above Quebec City. A farmers' market stall overflows with corn, tomatoes, squash, carrots, and several bottles of maple syrup. The Vancouver skyline stretches across the page with the mountains of the Coast Range behind it and the Convention Centre's white sails at the waterfront. A cedar canoe floats on a lake so still it reads like glass. Niagara Falls thunders over its ledge in a curtain of white mist. A Mountie stands at attention in full red serge and campaign hat. A plate of poutine — fries, cheese curds, gravy — arrives with the confident energy of a national institution. A Pacific Northwest totem pole with a thunderbird at the top and two carved faces stacked below it. And the book closes on an outdoor pond hockey game, five players on a rink carved from a frozen lake, pine trees and hills ringing the scene in every direction.

It's the perfect gift for the Canadian who misses home, the traveler who has always meant to go north, or anyone who wants 24 beautifully detailed pages of one of the most scenic countries on earth — no passport required.
