About the Book
Branches: An Epic Biography of a Central American Family began as Flor's exploration into her family's past its origins, its challenges, and the remarkable journeys that shaped its identity. The story traces her family's roots through discovery, conquest, political upheaval in Central America, tragedy, migration, and renewal. Through this narrative, Flor illustrates the universal threads of family experiences that connect us all.
In this second edition, Flor expands on the original inspiration behind the book, reflecting on the mindset of early European explorers as they encountered a world previously unknown to them. Her research into their motivations and expectations reveals parallels to the timeless issues of identity, adaptation, and resilience that families continue to navigate today.
The greatest legacies begin with the planting of seeds - seeds of love, resilience, adventure, and history that take root and grow through time into Branches.
Flor Suárez's passion for writing began when she was a young mother, creating stories for her daughter and the children in her family, stories that centered on love, understanding, and connection. Her curiosity deepened when she began exploring her maternal grandmother's family history, a journey that ignited her desire to document the past and eventually shaped her literary path. A long-time resident of South Florida, Flor was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Although she is no longer with us, her love for family and heritage continues to inspire her work, preserving the roots, journeys, and legacies that define generations. Her stories remain a lasting reflection of her passion for connection, memory, and the importance of honoring family history.
