Bone augmentation is a procedure to replace and repair fractured bone in extreme circumstances. The materials used in such grafting techniques must be biocompatible and might come from natural bone sources or synthetic materials. This book defines bone augmentation and describes different bone grafting materials, techniques, and applications. Recently developed materials are also explored.

is a Professor Emeritus at Indiana University School of Dentistry and an adjunct professor at University of California San Francisco School of Dentistry. He published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and 13 book chapters in materials science, biomaterials and engineering, and surface modification technology. He has published 4 books from De Gruyter STEM series and 3 books from other publishers. All books are related in materials science and engineering. His research interests are widely diverged in surface characterization and modification of biomaterials, non-destructive fatigue damage assessment, corrosion science and engineering of structural materials, faceology and its related influences in communication, and psychology of people with facial disfigurements.

Takashi Miyazaki, DDS, PhD

is a director of the Miyazaki Dental Clinic, operated in Nara Japan. He is a principal author of 3 serial published articles of an effective technique for enhancing the osseointegration, which is the combined method of Piezo-surgery for site preparation and UV-photofunctional radiation of surface modification of dental implants. He has established a semi-early loading principle, leading to enhance the DRQoL (dental heath related quality of living) of patients.
