Designed for young readers and their caregivers, this musical board book includes complete musical notation for parents, making it easy to sing along with children during story time.

Features and Benefits

The book combines visual storytelling with musical elements, allowing children to read along while learning the familiar tune. The durable board book format withstands repeated handling by small hands, making it ideal for toddlers and preschoolers who are developing early literacy skills.

School Library Journal praised this title, stating: "Parents, caregivers, teachers, and anyone involved in preschoolers' lives should find this title a must-have." The combination of Wells's expressive illustrations and the interactive musical component creates an engaging reading experience that supports language development and musical appreciation.

About Rosemary Wells

Rosemary Wells has been writing and illustrating children's books for nearly 30 years. Her artistic process is meticulous: drawings are first sketched in light pencil, nearly rubbed out, then redrawn in heavier pencil. The characteristic thick ink lines are actually layers of tiny ink lines, followed by careful color application.

Wells's home life has inspired many of her books. Her West Highland white terrier, Angus, provided the shape and expressions for beloved characters like Benjamin, Tulip, and Timothy. Her two daughters have been constant inspirations, particularly for her Max books, as she captures universal childhood moments and sibling dynamics that resonate with families everywhere.

After studying at the Museum School in Boston, Wells began her career as a book designer at Macmillan, where she published her first book, Sing a Song, O! She describes writing for children as "as difficult as writing serious verse" and "as mysterious as writing fine music."

This board book exemplifies Wells's dedication to creating meaningful, beautifully crafted books for young children. The combination of familiar songs, engaging illustrations, and durable construction makes it an excellent choice for building home libraries, classroom collections, or as a thoughtful gift for young readers.
