He has taught at the Deutsche Literaturinstitut (German Literature Institute) in Leipzig and at the Universität der Künste (University of the Arts) in Berlin. He has translated the poetry of W.B. Yeats, Wordsworth and Inger Christensen, as well as Eliot's Four Quartets and The Waste Land.
"but death takes each one by the hand: the thin man
in his white robe the picture the crumbling script that speaks
again and again of just one thing: mr monk I would just like to say
something: see how well I can dance before you all .. god every
time I hear that I'm so sorry I still want to get this and that
finished and make it to the rhine just one more time the way it looks
in the old engravings .. and then fade for ever into the wall"
