BELOW THE LAYER

Deep beneath the North Pacific, a silent war of acoustics and nerve unfolds. When Dr. Linda Chen discovers evidence of a revolutionary Chinese nuclear submarine; the US Navy's USS Ohio inadvertently detects and tracks the phantom vessel. Commander Matthew Ward has no margin for error. His boat carries nuclear missiles. His patrol area is classified. His enemy may not know he is there. If he stays silent, he risks letting a hostile submarine close within firing range. If he transmits, he exposes one of America's most survivable strategic assets. If he shoots, he may start a war before anyone ashore understands what is happening.

At SUBPAC, Admiral Catherine Ellison watches the crisis build from fragments. The Pacific balance has changed. Undetected and trapped inside the acoustic record of a strategic disaster, Ohio becomes the only witness to a catastrophe Beijing cannot admit and Washington cannot ignore. Now the intelligence must survive the handoff. USS Seawolf is ordered west to take the trail, close inside the new submarine's detection envelope, and capture the acoustic fingerprint that could define the next decade of undersea warfare.

Below the Layer is a submarine thriller about the terrifying math of modern undersea warfare: sound against silence, judgment against doctrine, and seconds against history. In the black water beneath the Pacific, the next war will not begin with a speech, a missile, or a headline. It will begin with a sound only one man hears. In a world of thermal layers and sonar pings, the crews must navigate the thin line between surveillance and open conflict.

This gripping maritime thriller explores the technological shadows of modern submarine warfare, the heavy psychological burden on the 'Silent Service, ' and the geopolitical secrets buried in the deep ocean.
