So many times we think we know someone based on their outward appearance or success in life; but to be honest, we really don't because there is so much more to their story Behind The Smile is a glimpse into my story-- the mind and life of myself and six other individuals close to me. When you read the poems in sequence you will start to unveil secrets that I have been involuntarily keeping.

I wrote this book to shed light on my doubts, adversities, and overall journey in hopes that it would show that we are not so different from one another. Though the details of our lives vary; the emotions, thoughts, and experiences are extremely similar, if not the same.

The only way to truly know someone and realize how similar we are is to look behind their smile...

Sleight: - Sleight was born Robert E. Timmons II in December of 1992 to the parents of Robert and Arnetta Timmons. He is the middle child of three, born and raised in Houston, Texas. Robert didn't find his love of poetry until his senior year of high school when he found spoken word poetry as an artistic way to express himself through stressful times. Upon graduating from high school in 2011, Robert attended the University of Pittsburgh and pursued a degree in electrical engineering. He always had a skill, understanding, and love for mathematics and engineering seemed like a very logical way to utilize his skillset. Throughout college, Robert was very involved around campus as he continued to develop his artistic expression. He continued to write and perform spoken word poetry all over campus and the city of Pittsburgh. Robert even had the opportunity to be casted as one of the lead characters, Eugene, in the University of Pittsburgh Theatre Department's adaptation of Yellowman by Dael Orlandersmith. Since then, Robert has continued to hone in on his artistic talent and plans to continue writing, performing, and acting. This book is only the beginning...
