Beaufort is a paint-a unique black and white horse. It never occurred to Beaufort that he was different, but when he started a new life with a new owner, 8-year old Sally, everything changed.

Beaufort used to be a ranch horse, but with his new job across the country, he noticed he didn't look like the other horses, and they were not very welcoming. But when a young rider was in trouble, Beaufort was the only horse brave enough to save the day.

Beaufort is real, too. He lives on a small farm in Maryland, and while he does look different than the other horses, he is fitting in quite nicely.

Miller, Candyce: - Candyce Miller has been an equestrian and horse lover for over 40 years. She has owned several horses, but none have inspired her to actually write a book as much as Beaufort! In her first children's book, Beaufort the Painted Pony, Candyce writes a story based on real events in Beaufort's world. He is a paint-a unique black and white horse, not common on most farms. Candyce partners with established equestrian artist, Jocelyn Sandor Urban, to bring this story to life. Jocelyn, an ardent friend of all animals, is a professional artist who uniquely captures the emotion and expression of her subjects in her portraiture. She has a MFA in printmaking from UMass Amherst, and her work is in many private and corporate collections, including the KY Derby Museum. Her childhood passion of riding and caring for animals led to her long standing career drawing and painting horses and dogs. Her work has been on the cover of magazines such as The Chronicle of the Horse and the AVMA Journal. She, along with her family, established FurSure Enterprises, Inc., now Urban Visual Media, LLC and is represented by their website, urbanvisualmedia.com. She lives in Nantucket, MA, where she is a member of the Art Association of Nantucket and has artwork featured in the Nantucket Looms.
