Biblical Commentary on Ruth and Esther
This Old Testament commentary examines two remarkable women whose faith shaped biblical history. Ruth, a foreigner and peasant, and Esther, a reluctant queen, both demonstrated unwavering commitment to God's will despite difficult circumstances.
Chapter-by-Chapter Analysis
Warren Wiersbe guides readers through the complete books of Ruth and Esther, providing detailed exposition of how God used stressful circumstances to accomplish his eternal purposes. Ruth's commitment to Naomi's God positioned her in the lineage of King David and Jesus Christ. Esther's obedience preserved the Jewish people during a critical moment in history.
What You'll Study
This commentary examines the faith journeys of both women, asking readers to consider their own level of trust in God. Would you follow Ruth's example of leaving everything familiar to serve the God of Israel? Could you demonstrate Esther's courage in risking your life to save others?
The book explores how God uses faithful commitment in different ways—sometimes affecting generations to come, other times impacting the current generation. Wiersbe's exposition prepares readers to recognize how God might use their own lives for his purposes.
Ideal for Personal and Group Study
This resource works well for individual devotional reading, small group Bible studies, or church educational programs. The commentary format provides historical context, theological insights, and practical applications from these two Old Testament books.
