In The Apocryphon of John, readers are invited to uncover one of the most guarded and revolutionary texts of early Christianity. For centuries, this profound scripture was lost to history, hidden away in desert caves to protect it from those who sought to silence its radical message. Now, brought to life in a clear, modern translation, this "Secret Book" reveals a mesmerizing cosmological drama that challenges everything we thought we knew about the origins of the universe and our place within it.
Far more than a simple alternative myth, The Apocryphon of John delves into profound themes of spiritual liberation, the illusion of the physical world, and the true, unknowable nature of the Divine. It recounts a breathtaking vision granted to the apostle John, where the Savior appears to explain the complex hierarchy of heaven, the tragic fall of Sophia (Wisdom), and the creation of humanity by a flawed, lesser creator known as the Demiurge.
What You'll Discover in This Modern Translation:
- The Secret Cosmology of the Gnostics Explore a breathtaking, multi-layered spiritual universe emanating from the ultimate, invisible God of pure light.
- The Story of Sophia and the Demiurge Understand the ancient Gnostic explanation for the flawed material world and the origins of suffering through the fall of Divine Wisdom.
