Isaac is a young mage on a dangerous quest.

He has set out from his uncle's tower with a singular goal: to rescue his father from the clutches of an ancient necromancer, who resides somewhere within the corpse of a skeletal colossus. After days of braving the desert, Isaac mistakenly launches a fireball at a pirate ship, and, in the ensuing chaos, soon finds himself at the mercy of the only surviving brigand, a towering hyena known as Zaria.

He assumes she will leave him for dead.

Instead, Zaria joins his mission by force, seeking the treasure at the bottom of the tomb. Very soon, the two are locked in an unsteady alliance, facing off against deadly traps, ancient machines, powerful sorcerers, pursuing pirates, and all manner of unfolding conspiracy. As the dangers continue to mount, and the possibilities for escape grow ever slim, both human and hyena discover they have more in common than either thought possible. What starts as rivalry soon becomes friendship, trust, and even love.

In the end, their only hope of survival will be each other.
