A Home of Our Own is the Kathy Bates drama on DVD, about a widowed mother who moves six children out of Los Angeles and into Idaho.
Frances Lacey loses her job, collects her son from the police, and decides the answer is to leave. What they find is an unfinished house and a long argument with everyone about keeping it.
Good to know
Sold as a family drama, and mostly it plays like one, but viewers regularly flag the language as rougher than that label suggests. Worth knowing before a family evening.
From the studio
Hardworking mother and widow, Frances Lacey (Kathy Bates, Misery) is just trying to make ends meet when she s fired from her job at a local potato chip company. Adding insult to injury, her son Shayne (Edward Furlong, Terminator 2: Judgment Day) is brought to her door by the police for stealing change from local payphones.
Deciding it s time for a fresh start, Frances and her six children pull up stakes in Los Angeles and move to rural Idaho. In search of a better life, Frances and her children (whom she dubs the Lacey Clan) spot an unfinished house and decide to do whatever it takes, no matter the challenges and adversity, to buy the property and build a home of their own.
A Home of Our Own, directed by Tony Bill (My Bodyguard) from a screenplay by Patrick Duncan (Mr. Holland s Opus), co-stars Soon-Tek Oh (The Man with the Golden Gun), Melvin Ward (Battling for Baby) and Michael Flynn (Stripes).
