Kolaches - Amazing & Easy!

If you enjoy baking, you must have this book. For those living in the Texas "Czech Belt", kolaches are a part of everyday life. This sweet yeast bread filled with fruit or cheese was brought to the U.S. with Czech immigrants, in the mid-1800s. A "kolache", for those who have never been blessed with a sampling of the pastry, is a type of pastry that holds a dollop of fruit rimmed by a puffy pillow of supple dough. Dorothy Tepera Palmer was born in central Texas. She graduated from Texas A&M University and spent her professional life in Research and Translational Science. She is proud to be 100% Czech and a second-generation American. Dorothy was raised in the Texas "Czech-Belt" where she learned to polka and waltz and bake kolaches as did all the other Czech "farm girls".
