A great American blues singer with an enormous, powerful voice, Big Joe Turner has often been considered the Godfather of rock n' roll. Although Turner's career stretched from the 1920's to the 1980's, he is best remembered for the decade of the 1950's when his pioneering rock n' roll recordings, particularly "Shake Rattle and Roll," helped to define a new genre of American popular music.
