Armed with little more than a toothbrush and a dream, and confronted with the daunting challenge of adapting to a new culture without knowing English, he set his sights on two monumental goals: breaking into the music industry and reuniting with his family, who had been held back by the Cuban government. Defying the odds through sheer determination and hard work, he not only mastered the language of jazz but also broke barriers to become the drummer for jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie during the final years of the legendary musician's career.
