The Kingdom of Quail is a southern saga that centers around a quail plantation in South Georgia. It is a story of love and loss, joy and struggle, and ladled into the tale is the history of the finest quail hunting in the country and visitors to the Red Hills such as Errol Flynn, Jackie Kennedy, Dwight Eisenhower, and the duke and duchess of Windsor. Many of the scenes are based on true stories. Subtly woven into the plot are facts concerning land stewardship, water management, wildlife habitat, and the effects of each of these on the environment. Much of the book centers around the northern bobwhite quail. But this book is not about quail. It's about people.
When Luke Johnson and his mother are abandoned by his alcoholic father, they are taken in by the Parkers, a wealthy family living on a pristine quail plantation. Luke embraces the natural surroundings and blossoms as a young man in this unique environment.
