It is specifically to the need for instruction of keepers of coldwater marine life, whether hobbyist, dealer, public aquarist, aquaculturist, laboratory animal technician or fisheries biologist, that this work is directed. The Coldwater Marine Aquarium combines descriptive language and hard numbers in a way that meaningfully depicts the complexities of coldwater seascapes. The emphasis on biogeography in this book is strong, and not inadvertently so. Arguably, any serious marine aquarist should be at least a little conversant with certain fundamental oceanographic and ecological concepts. In that respect, it is hoped that this work serves well in rounding out the bookshelf of frankly any kind of aquarist. But it is especially incumbent upon temperate and deep-water marine aquarists (who have a special penchant for biotope aquaria) to have some biogeographic knowledge of the marinelife in their keep. To that end, a wealth of pertinent field data is given to assist in the recreation of distinct biotopes. A generous assemblage of full-color images provides many vivid examples of topics discussed in the text. 105 pages, 52,592 words.

Kenneth Wingerter has been keeping aquaria of all kinds for over 30 years. His interest in coldwater marine wildlife was sparked while working around Alaska and Siberia aboard a Bering Sea fishing vessel. In later years, while studying in the Pacific Northwest United States, he started and operated foreshores.net, which was at the time the only temperate marine aquarium livestock specialty retail operation. Upon earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology at the University of Oregon, he went on to focus his research on coldwater aquaria while acquiring certification in the Aquarium Science Program. While working throughout the last two decades in the aquarium industry, Kenneth has had the opportunity to maintain public and private aquarium exhibits, oversee greenhouse and laboratory facilities and engage in intensive ornamental and sportfish aquaculture. He remains deeply and happily involved in the field of aquarium science as a contributor to a number of American and European aquarium hobbyist publications.
