This LP brings back the second of two Riverside albums cut by singer Billie Poole in 1962. Other than a single from a few years earlier, the two sets were Poole's entire recording legacy. Poole was an expressive singer who favoured blues-oriented jazz material and for this date here chosen rhythm section was the unbeatable Junior Mance Trio plus guitaristKenny Burrell. Featuring mostly vintage material with a few more contemporary songs of the day added for variety, Poole's interpretations of such classic as 'Confessin' the Blues' (Walter Brown/JayMcShann), 'Stormy Weather' (Harold Arlen/Ted Koehler), 'Alone Together'(Arthur Schwartz), and 'God Bless the Child' by Billie Holiday/Arthur Herzog Jr.)are exceptional and as good as any other recorded versions.
