Violin Concerto No.1 - Viola Concerto

This new Krzysztof Penderecki (b. 1933) Dux label offering features the great Polish composer's First Violin Concerto (1976/77) and Viola Concerto (1983). The most important, single-movement Violin Concerto manifested a decisive turning away from the achievements of the avant-garde in favor of a Neo-Romantic means of expression, signifying a spectacular return to tradition. The Viola Concerto's original title - Elegia - perfectly suits the work's dominant mood - that of reflection. Mr. Penderecki himself is heard to conduct this performance of the Viola Concerto.
