Strategic Framework for International Student Ministry in Global Missions

This comprehensive guide addresses the strategic importance of international students and scholars within global missions. With over one million international students from virtually every country arriving in the U.S. for higher education, many of them Christian, this resource presents a framework for maximizing this unprecedented opportunity for kingdom impact.

Core Ministry Strategy

The book outlines a systematic approach focused on four critical phases:

  • Identifying Christian international students soon after campus arrival
  • Providing Biblical and theological training during their academic tenure
  • Equipping students for effective ministry upon return to their home countries
  • Establishing post-return support systems and follow-up

Evidence-Based Effectiveness

Documentation throughout the text, including testimonies from missionaries, demonstrates that properly trained Christian international students achieve greater effectiveness in their home countries than traditional foreign missionaries. The author provides clear reasoning for this phenomenon while maintaining that traditional missionaries remain essential due to abundant harvest fields and limited laborers.

Practical Applications and Real-World Impact

Readers will find compelling illustrations of Christian international students who returned home to accomplish ministry feats on scales previously thought impossible. These real-world examples demonstrate the tangible outcomes of strategic international student engagement.

Being a university director Dr. Burke was able to: -offer services of care and compassion to internationals. -open doors for many in church and para-church ministries to be of service to international students. -initiate a national meeting of those engaged in international student ministry which led to the formation of ACMI. Later he became the founder of the NAFSA Christian SIG. -open doors for many Christians to receive training to enter the profession of foreign student advising. -together with his wife D'Ann organize an office sponsored friendship family program.
