Journey's End follows a young man from a small town in Missouri in the 1920s. Wrongfully sent to prison after a prank that had gone too far, he is hardened and learns the way of criminals and crime. Upon his release, he makes his way to the small and peaceful town of Journey's End where he applies what he learned in prison and slowly takes control of the town.

Woven throughout the book are the stories about the people of Journey's End, their secrets, and their sins.

Soon, it becomes clear that this small town in Missouri is not quite as it seems.
