Newly single and heartbroken, Valerie Parker bravely leaves Chicago and travels across the country to stay at a guest ranch in Colorado with her beloved horse, Cedar, in tow. Looking for adventure and time to heal, she hopes to get swept away by the mountains and landscape, but doesn't expect to fall in love.

When Valerie meets Alex, the charming and handsome cowboy who helps to run the ranch, her life gets turned upside down and she questions everything she thought she knew about what she wanted in life. Alex and his mother, Caroline, are working hard to keep the ranch and their livelihood going when Valerie comes to stay and changes both of their lives.
