Handel: Chamber Cantatas

Composed during his Italian stay at the beginning of the 18th century, at a time when women were not often allowed to appear in front of an audience, Handel's cantatas paint a nuanced picture of the opera heroine. Italian prima donna Margherita Durastanti, one of the few professional female singers of the period, delighted listeners with her brilliant interpretations of these works.
