I'm getting so sick and tired of dying.
I'm also getting pretty sick of all the werewolf mercenaries snapping at my heels and getting stared down by an uppity underworld receptionist who I'm pretty sure is a hell beast.
With my new ability to commune with the dead making me jumpier than a long-tailed cat in a roomful of rocking chairs, I'm pretty sure the end of my tether zoomed past me days ago.
At least the paranormal pains in my butt have stopped trashing my house.
With help (sort of) from my new band of not-so-merry sidekicks-Vincent, the immortal leader of the Patrons of Order, Poppy, the ghost of my dead twin sister, and Azrael, my imaginary childhood friend who, as it turns out, not so imaginary-I discover a diabolical plan to resurrect (pun intended) a forbidden experiment to create a master race of human-paranormal hybrids. A plan that was supposed to have been benched in the 1800s!
Still no closer to discovering how I ended up with a werewolf heart beating in my chest, I turned to my trusty friend, the internet, for answers.
Big mistake.
Not only did I not find out who was conducting the clandestine, inter-species transplant experiments, or how I got mixed up in the whole sordid affair in the first place, but I also unwittingly uncovered the red market: an online hub where paranormal body parts are bought and sold.
Nasty.
It doesn't help that my brain is all fuzzy with tingly thoughts about a certain smart-mouthed peacekeeper, and a dreamy cardio thoracic surgeon, both of whom are proving to be very distracting.
Perhaps meeting the werewolf and vampire elders at a super-secret meeting of the Patrons of Order would shed some more light on my dire situation?
I mean, it couldn't get any worse, could it?
