Bonbon with the Wind: A Southern Chocolate Shop Mystery

A hurricane is brewing in the Sea Islands, and with it comes a deadly mystery. Penn and Stella return for another thrilling investigation in this hardcover cozy mystery that blends Southern charm, supernatural legends, and a chocolate shop backdrop.

The Mystery

Local legend speaks of the Gray Lady, a ghostly figure who walks the beach before hurricanes strike, warning of impending doom. Penn dismisses these tales as superstition, but Joe Davies, a treasure hunter with a weakness for sweets, swears he saw the Gray Lady that very morning. When the hurricane passes and Penn walks her dog Stella along the beach, she discovers Joe's body washed ashore. Did the Gray Lady claim another victim, or is there a more sinister explanation?

Penn refuses to accept the supernatural explanation. Following clues and whispers of lost gold, she navigates a complex investigation as winding and treacherous as the boating channels cutting through the local marshes. The truth behind the treasure hunter's death lies somewhere between legend and reality.

Dorothy St. James was born in New York but raised in South Carolina, where she continues to make her home. Though writing has always been her passion, she pursued an undergraduate degree in Wildlife Biology and a graduate degree in Public Administration and Urban Planning. She worked in all branches and levels of government, including local, regional, state, and federal positions, and spent time during college working for a non-profit environmental watchdog organization.

Switching from government service and community planning to fiction writing was a natural transition. Her government work focused on the stories of people and the places where they live. As an urban planner, Dorothy loved telling these stories, and her desire to share the tales alive in her heart grew until she could no longer ignore it. In 2001, she took a leap of faith and pursued fiction writing full-time.

Dorothy St. James is the alter-ego of award-winning multi-published author Dorothy McFalls. She writes in several different genres, with works nominated for numerous awards including the Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award, Reviewers International Organization Award, National Reader's Choice Award, CataRomance Reviewers' Choice Award, and The Romance Reviews Today Perfect 10! Award. Reviewers have called her work "amazing," "perfect," "filled with emotion," and "lined with danger."
