About the Author
Khalilah Olokunola was not born with a silver spoon, she worked for it. Her wonder years were split between Brooklyn and Troy. A small town on the outskirts of Albany NY, known for it's street violence, Influx of drugs and abandoned houses. Despite a childhood that came with many challenges-a story she is in the process of writing, Khalilah boasts a somewhat successful career as the President of A Boxed Event (ABE). A boutique firm with a micro niche component specializing in styling unique events made to measure. Events that are determined by life & vision. She holds more than 10 years of event, innovation & brand strategy experience . She has a proven track record in connecting brands to their base & people to their stories . Some of her past clients include Former Chairman of Monster Worldwide, Former president of Daimler Chrysler and other C-level executives, Pro Football players & movie production companies. She attended Borough of Manhattan Community College, John Jay then the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She holds advanced certification in executive development and Peer counseling. Khalilah is the holding chair of The New Hanover Commission For Women, Founder of Powerful Women where she presents empowerment socials and workshops for real women based on Dr. Suess & Winnie the Pooh books in Wilmington NC. She co-founded Wilmington Fashion Weekend & Partnered with Smart Stylenista - The first colloborative/ coselling fashion tech platform. She is the former celebrity wedding writer for The Green Bride guide - A National publication known as The most credible resource for green weddings & current publisher of Masonboro Life - A social publication for one of the most socially connected & affluent communities in Wilmington NC. She has been featured during her career on News Channel 14, WWAY, Fox, & WECT stories to name a few. Khalilah is a past nominee of the YWCA Women of Achievement Award as well as the WILMA magazines Women to Watch award. She has won the Wedding Industry Award for 3 years in a row before being placed on the Honor Roll. Khalilah has an insatiable curiosity with trees, receives alerts when scuppernong grapes are in season and wonders everyday how she got here? Khalilah is happily married to Al with 4 children ages 21, 20, 7 and 8. Along with a pup named Ms. Bailey they call Wilmington, NC home by way of Brooklyn, NY.
