With Roberts at the helm in the studio and producing the album, the band has evolved beyond just being solid composers. As the name Analog Son implies Linit, Fairman, and company, have truly become the new generation of heavy-hitting, authentic groove music that was cultivated in the 70s. The group utilized vintage recording techniques like putting t-shirts on the drums and recording with minimal mics pushing the envelope in both the funk genre and further into their own sound. "Ugly Mug" is the perfect example of this matured vigor featuring beautiful vocals intertwined with rich horn harmonies and filled out by Roberts' guidance on phrasing and crafting the bridge sections.
