Custin, Heidi: - Heidi Custin is a two time recipient for the Family Award for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) for her work as a support group facilitator for families of people living with mental illness and for her contribution to Crisis Intervention Training for first responders in Kansas City, Mo. and many rural counties in Missouri. She was inducted into the National NAMI Hall of Fame in 2019. Heidi's passion for NAMI began in 2011 after her son, Adam was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. She participates in conferences and health fairs around the state of Missouri and began NAMI walks in the Greater Kansas City area in 2016, following the shutdown of the Kansas City affiliate. She then helped recruit many volunteers to continue to offer support groups and classes around the city. Heidi resides with her husband, Joe in Grandview, Missouri.
